This past week our family took part in a Nielsen Ratings survey. I had to keep a diary of everything we watched and was pleasantly surprised. Of course, there are weeks we watch more, some weeks less, but this past week was an average week for us. All total, our tv viewing time was 10 hours for the week. Five and a half hours for myself and Simon and four and a half hours for the kids (tv and videos together).
This is a huge accomplishment for me being raised with the tv on at all hours - (even during dinner time) and frankly I don't miss it one bit. I get my news from the newspaper and internet, so I don't even think to turn it on for that. To be fair, I can guarantee I spend more than 5 hours a week on the computer and need to work on that.
It was an interesting experiment. I wouldn't really even be that concerned but so much tv today IS trash. We call it entertainment, but we all know that the more we watch unnecessary violence, bad language, crude humor, unhealthy relationships - the more we find it acceptable. The more we accept it, the more it dwells in our hearts and takes root.
