Us and 87,449 others

Yesterday, was mine and Simon's eighth wedding anniversary. We celebrated over the weekend by going to the Auburn vs. Tennessee game. Simon had never been to a big college game and I surprised him with tickets. Around here, we take turns planning our anniversary so there's always added suspense.

I loved watching Simon take it all in- the tailgating, people's outfits, the Tiger Walk, lemonade at Toomer's Corner, the soaring eagle, the band. He commented about everything. It really was a new experience for him and I love to see excitement in his eyes since he's usually Mr. Calm and Steady. He didn't even mind springing for an Auburn t-shirt for me and a new baseball cap for himself. It ended up not being the best game- far from it- I think Auburn only won by default (not by playing great that's for sure) and Tennessee just seemed to give up, but still the whole experience was pure fun!

Now it may seem strange for a girl, but I do love college football. There is something about the atmosphere that gets me so excited. While most people think of pumpkin picking and Halloween as Fall rolls around, I'm busy looking up my favorite teams schedules and just love to spend my Saturdays in front of the tv with snacks and ESPN. Now don't get me wrong- I really don't know much about football itself. I couldn't tell you what a corner does or what a defensive end's job is exactly, but I do get the premise of the game and find it so easy to get drawn in. Simon, on the other hand, is still learning. What are the odds that I ended up with a man that would rather be outside mowing than watching the Bulldogs get their tails kicked by Bama (sorry friends, I cannot bring myself to be a Georgia fan - no matter how long I live here). :)

Ahhh, anyway, we had a great time and I encourage everyone to surprise their spouse by trying something new. There was a moment for me of, "Oh no, he's going to hate this." but I challenge you. Get out of the rut you're in. It's given us something entirely new to talk about which is a breath of fresh air from the daily grind and the gloom-and-doom economy!

I love you more now Simon than ever! I look forward to growing old with you, but let's just promise to never get old AND boring!!!

Fireproof - You HAVE to Go!

OH my goodness. I've been wanting to blog about this movie all day but just do not know where to start. You know when you watch a movie trailer in excitement and then watch the movie only to discover that the best parts were in the trailer? I am SO glad this was not the case in Fireproof.

Last night, Simon and I attended a pre-release screening of the film that was promoted by a local radio station. There are so many things we both took from the movie- and I won't dare to give a bit of it away- but I will say that there were so many heart issues touched upon that yes, even the men in the audience were sniffling. Real stuff like women craving the desire to be needed and cherished and a man's need to be respected. Of course, it's all intertwined with pride, selfishness, misplaced expectations, lust and greed.

I just cannot say enough and really do believe this movie can and will change marriages with its honest and real look at a couple's struggles.

So, please go see it and PLEASE go see it opening weekend (Sept 26-29). At the screening they did remind us that theatres decide on how long to keep a movie going based on the opening weekend sales. There are three big Hollywood releases opening the first week in October and this is not a movie I hope is swept under the rug or forgotten about after the first week. Please tell your friends and your friend's friends. This is not a matter of a movie, but of rescuing marriages - THE foundation of the family. if we cannot get this in order, there's no hope for the rest of our house.

What a man!!

What a man I have!!!

Would you believe we had ((cringe)) THREE mice in the house and Simon trapped them all without the blink of an eye??
This is definitely one of those times when I am reminded how blessed I am to have a husband like him. I was doing the typical standing-on-the-couch-squeemish-thing and he jumped up, got right to work with the traps and in no time they were history. Even though I thanked him I wonder if he really knows just how loved and cared for that made me feel.

Thank you honey for taking care of us day in and day out. This may have been a mere household chore for you, but it was a true act of service and just one of the qualities about you that I love so very much!!
