Not to us, O Lord

If you're from the South, you know it's not uncommon to have a church on nearly every corner. "Great!", you may say. "Not so great", I say. Especially when it's becoming the norm that churches start promoting the "best new programs" as well as free gifts and gift cards with attendance. (No, I am not kidding!) Not to mention two recent signs on church billboards that just made me cringe:

God couldn't be everywhere, so he created mothers.

and

Sermons and biscuits are improved with shortening.

Need I say more???

Perhaps this is on my mind more than ever as our church leaves its small storefront building and moves into our newly built church building tomorrow.

Ten years ago it started as a church plant that has grown and the time had come to move to another location.

Simon and I started attending a little more than one year ago and it has been exciting to come in at a time to see this project come to completion. We have watched all the work that has transpired and listened to the prayers of our pastor and elders as they have kept the focus on the things that matter. Really matter.

Not for a fancy new building.
Not for more members.
Not to be the cool new church in town.
For Him. For His glory.

We eagerly look ahead.

"Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory."   Psalm 115:1 (NIV)

I drove past the "God couldn't be everywhere" sign at least 5 times while it was up and every time I saw it I shook my head. But God IS everywhere!

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope you and your sweet little ones enjoy a beautiful day together. :)

Saw that saying on a decorative sign in Kirklands a while back. The Christian friend I was with said "Awwww!" and just thought it was a sweet sentiment. I had to point out the fallacy to her. Sometimes we just get too caught up in the "awwwww" factor.
