This book, Do Hard Things, was recommended by a few people I know. It was a very fast read (I read it in two sittings while the kids were resting/napping) and I've added it to my book favorites at the right.
It was written by two 18 year old brothers as a rebellion against low expectations that our culture typically assigns to teenagers.

Before that there were children and adults. Now there may have been young adults, but as an adult much more was expected, so therefore, much more was produced.
The implications of this book reached me as well as I daily choose to do the HARD THINGS. There are so many things that do not come easy to me but I know that I do have a choice and that God will give me the strength for things that he has asked of me.
Spending time in God's word, being a homemaker, a good wife, a mother who does not discipline in anger but with love and purposefulness, taking on the decision to homeschool. These are my daily struggles. However, I have been given my call and I will respond.

I've done a lot of research on the teenager phenomenon. Even high school culture as we know it is only about 60 years old.
The first half of a book called Reimagining Incarnational Youth Ministry by Andrew Root is a good summary.
