Our First Tea Party

At least I hope it's the first of many. This turned out so much better than I even imagined.

I told Haviland that we could have a couple of friends over for a tea party since she's a Christmas Day baby and does not get to celebrate her birthday with friends. Don't they look like they're having fun?

Well, of course this isn't the real party, but I caught her playing with her Calico Critters the other day and thought it was so darn cute. Here's the real deal:

Even the boys (Jackson and Anson) practiced being gentlemen and escorted the girls into the tea party, helped them get seated and handed out the menus. It was great to watch them be part of our tea party and they loved being our servers. Having had their fill after that, they ran off to explore some new world.

That left just us girls...well, and Bennett of course.

We snacked on cinnamon toast, strawberry and creme scones, and chocolates. Our featured tea was Bubble Gum- with real gumballs!

I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I sure did!

Happy Un-Birthday sweet Haviland! Thank you for sharing a cup of tea with me!

We just looked at "Haviland on the puter" according to Ella and Julia said, "I want to go to another tea party at Haviland's house with my beautiful dress." It was hit...same time next year?

Sounds great! I also wanted to share how inexpensive this party ended up being. (I love you Haviland, but we're trying to scale it back.) And to be honest, this was my favorite party so far.

Place cards - free (made them) Flowers - free (jasmine that was blooming outside)
Haviland's china tea set - $14.00
Scone mix - $7.00
Chocolates - $3.00 at Starbucks on sale after Christmas
Bubblegum tea- $7.50

Grand total- less than $35.00 (in years past we've spent as much as $100 on parties- yikes! hurts to type that)

Of course I could've spent way less by not buying special tea or scone mix, but it was an extra little treat. :)

Anyone else have ideas about low-cost birthdays for boys? I want to start thinking for Bennett's 2nd in April and Jackson's 6th in May.
